FAQ
Commercial
Generally, yes. We are very experienced in finding innovative ways to minimise disruption to the occupier of the building.
Here are some examples:
- Replacement of a fragile asbestos roof over a fully operational food packaging line. We have now replaced two sections with no incidents and no disruption to the factory
- Replacement of roofing over a Christchurch Hospital brain research complex
- Replacement of roofing over an office block in the Christchurch CBD. This work was carried out at night time to minimise noise during the day.
Roof leaks can be a result of obvious issues but they can also sometimes be notoriously difficult to trace.
Common causes of roof leaks include:
- Poor design of flashing details
- Poorly installed roof-mounted plant
- General deterioration
- Insufficient drainage
- Seismic damage
- Deteriorated/damaged gutters and flashings
- Build-up of debris and dirt
- The wrong type of roofing material
- The wrong type of roofing installer.
Not necessarily. It depends on the type of rust.
If the roof is rusting out from below or only in certain specific areas the best option may be a replacement.
If it is only surface rust then your roof does not necessarily need replacement. If left unattended it will eventually rust through but if it is caught in time your roof may be able to be coated using a rust mitigation system.
We use the Duraltect system which is highly effective against surface rust. We have one roof we know of which has done 35 years and is still counting!
Residential
Not necessarily. The bulk of roof leaks we attend are relatively minor issues that can be repaired. It depends on what is causing the problem. If the leak is coming in near a vent penetration, gutter or similar specific roof detail it is likely that this detail can be repaired individually. If the leak is a result of rusted or deteriorated roofing material then it is more likely that your roof needs to be replaced.
There are ways to repair almost every roof leak without full replacement but in some cases, full replacement is the best option economically.
Full replacement also has the added benefit of improving the appearance of your roof and also adding value to your property.
Materials:
We only use the best roofing material suppliers so can offer all the standard material warranties.
Workmanship:
We take pride in our work and if we have done something wrong we will fix it. For minor or smaller jobs we provide a standard 1 year workmanship warranty, this is particularly when we are working around existing roofing details. For larger jobs where we are carrying out full replacements or major works, our standard 5-year workmanship warranty is available.
It varies depending on your location but we recommend that as a minimum you should clean your gutters at least once a year. The best time for this is around the end of autumn in preparation for winter this will mean that the bulk of the leaves have fallen off the trees and can be cleaned out of your spoutings.
